The CRAZIES

Mixed Media in repurposed books and on paper. |  2014 - 2016

I started making these back in 2014 when I had a lot going on in my head and did not always know what to do with it. I jokingly called the process “getting the crazies out.” I tore up papers and magazines, added paint, scribbled and drew, then moved things around until something began to make sense—or at least made me feel better.

I rarely knew what I was making when I started. I did not worry much about composition, color, or whether things belonged together. Sometimes the finished piece surprised me. I would see something in it I had not realized was there.

The Crazies became a place to put thoughts and feelings I did not quite have words for. I still love to sit on my porch, throw caution to the wind, and play—tearing, painting, scribbling, and gluing. It remains a kind of healing exercise for me.
